How to Remove AI Labels from Your Photos — 3 Steps

A fresh copy for your next upload, in just a few clicks.

1

Upload

Choose your final exported photos or drag them into the tool. “Upload” opens the files locally: your images stay on your device.

2

Strip C2PA/XMP

Select Remove metadata to remove embedded provenance and editing records, along with EXIF, IPTC, and PNG text where present.

3

Download & post

Save individual images or a ZIP, then select those copies for your next post. Keep your originals and add any required AI disclosure.

What Is an "AI Label" — and Why Do Platforms Show AI Info?

AI Info vs “Made with AI”

An AI label is a platform notice about how content was made or edited. Meta replaced “Made with AI” with “AI info” after feedback that the earlier wording could suggest a whole image was generated, even when AI made only a small edit.

Why platforms add labels

Platforms use labels to give viewers context. Embedded provenance records and creator disclosures can inform them; some services also analyze the image itself. A file’s metadata and a platform’s visible label are separate things.

Read Meta’s explanation of AI info labels. Cleaning a file cannot edit a label on an existing post.

What We Strip: EXIF, XMP, C2PA, IPTC & PNG Text Chunks

Hidden records can travel with a photo long after you finish editing it.

EXIF

Camera settings, capture dates, GPS coordinates, and orientation can live in EXIF. The cleaner removes these records. When rotation is needed, it exports an upright PNG.

XMP

XMP can hold editing software names, descriptions, and workflow history. We remove the container, including ordinary editing records as well as AI-related fields.

C2PA

Content Credentials carry provenance information. They can describe camera originals and edits, so their presence alone does not prove AI generation. Cleaning removes supported embedded provenance blocks.

PNG text chunks

PNG tEXt, zTXt, and iTXt chunks can store comments, prompts, or generation settings. The cleaner strips these text records from the sharing copy.

IPTC

IPTC records can include captions, creator names, keywords, and copyright details. Keep a master with this information, and remove it only when you have the right to do so.

Browser-only processing

JPG, PNG, and WebP normally keep their compressed image data. AVIF is converted to PNG; EXIF rotation also needs conversion. ICC color profiles are kept by default.

Which AI Tools Leave Labels on Your Images

What survives in the file depends on the tool, version, format, and export settings. Inspect the actual image you plan to share.

Midjourney

Midjourney documents a hidden file tag used to verify delivered images. Edits and resaving can remove it. A missing tag does not establish that an image was made without AI. Midjourney’s authenticity guide.

DALL·E / ChatGPT

OpenAI image exports can carry C2PA provenance. OpenAI also documents invisible pixel watermarks for its image tools; this metadata cleaner does not remove those watermarks. OpenAI’s provenance guide.

Adobe Firefly

Firefly attaches Content Credentials to generated assets. Inspect the final downloaded image for those records before deciding which information belongs in your sharing copy. Adobe’s Content Credentials overview.

Stable Diffusion

The model name alone does not determine metadata. Interfaces such as AUTOMATIC1111 can save prompts and generation parameters in PNG text fields. WebUI’s documented features.

ComfyUI

ComfyUI images can embed workflow data that lets you reload a workflow from the image. Preserve a master if you want to reproduce the result later. An official workflow example.

CapCut

For a CapCut cover or exported still, check the file for software names and editing records. Do not assume every export includes an AI tag. This tool processes images, not the video project or MP4.

Lightroom AI Denoise

A denoised camera photo can still be a photograph you took. Inspect its final export for software and editing records; using an AI feature does not establish that every export carries the same tag.

When the AI Label Is a False Positive

A label can be misleading about the extent of an edit. Start with the original and the export history.

AI denoising on a real photo

Compare your camera original with the denoised export in the metadata viewer. An editor’s name or an AI-assisted step does not mean the entire scene was generated.

Generative fill in one area

Filling a background or removing a distraction changes part of an image. A broad label may not describe that scope clearly, but the AI edit is real and may still need disclosure.

A CapCut cover image

Inspect the still you exported, rather than assuming a label describes the whole video. If a published label seems wrong, use the platform’s review or support process where available.

Free, Browser-Only — Your Images Never Leave Your Device

No credits, subscription, or login needed to clean your images.

Why local processing protects your privacy

Your browser reads and processes the selected files on your device. Images and their metadata are not uploaded to our servers, so cleaning a private photo does not require sending us a copy.

Download before you close the tab

Choose up to 30 images, with a 20 MB limit per image and 150 MB per batch. Save your results before closing or refreshing. A Google account is optional and is not needed for any image tool.

Who This Tool Is For

Make a sharing copy while keeping the original records where you need them.

Etsy & print-on-demand sellers

Prepare product photos and mockups in batches. Keep your source artwork, licenses, and creation records, and follow each marketplace’s disclosure requirements.

Social media managers

Check final exports for posts, Stories, and carousels before they enter a publishing workflow. Clean after the final edit so later exports do not add metadata back.

Photographers

Remove location and camera records from a public copy while keeping a full-resolution archive. Review the effect of removing attribution and retain color profiles when needed.

Privacy-conscious users

Inspect photos for embedded GPS, timestamps, and names before sharing. Remember that faces, street signs, and other clues visible in the image remain visible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this remove the AI label on Instagram?

It removes embedded AI metadata from a local photo before you upload it. It cannot remove the AI info label from an existing Instagram post or Story, and it cannot guarantee that a new upload will be unlabeled. Instagram may use other signals or creator disclosures.

Does it work on TikTok?

It cleans metadata from still images for TikTok Photo Mode, carousels, and covers. It does not process videos, change TikTok settings, or remove TikTok’s automatic AI-generated label from a published post. Required AI disclosures still apply.

Can it remove SynthID or invisible watermarks?

No. SynthID is an invisible watermark embedded in image pixels, not file metadata. Removing EXIF, XMP, or C2PA records does not remove SynthID. This tool cannot remove SynthID or other invisible pixel-level watermarks, and it does not remove visible watermarks either.

Do my images get uploaded?

No. Your images and their metadata are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers. The file picker opens a local copy on your device. Download your results before closing or refreshing the page.

Is it really free?

Yes. All image tools are free, with no login, credits, subscription, or payment required. You can process up to 30 images per batch, 20 MB per image, and 150 MB in total.

How do I remove an AI label from a photo?

Choose the original image, review its embedded metadata, then select Remove metadata. Download the new file and use it for your next upload. This changes the file you selected; it does not edit a label on a post that is already online.

Will this change my image quality?

For JPG, PNG, and WebP, we remove metadata blocks without recompressing image data and keep color profiles by default. Images with EXIF rotation are normalized and exported as PNG so they stay the right way up. AVIF is converted to PNG by your browser; HDR and color appearance can change during conversion.

Can I remove AI info from an Instagram Story?

For a new Story, clean the final photo here, download it, and select that copy in Instagram. This tool cannot change an existing Story or guarantee that Instagram will not display an AI info label.

Which image formats can I use?

Use JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF images. AVIF requires browser decoding support and is exported as PNG. Video, GIF, SVG, and RAW files are not supported. Images above 50 megapixels are rejected to limit browser memory use.

Is an AI label remover the same as an AI detector?

No. This tool inspects and removes embedded file records. It does not judge image pixels, verify authorship, or certify that a photo is human-made. Missing metadata is not proof that AI was not used.

Can I use the AI tag remover on my phone?

Yes. Open the tool in a modern mobile browser, choose a photo, clean it, and save the downloaded copy from your browser’s Downloads folder or share menu. Smaller batches are useful on devices with less memory.
